Workshops

  1. Why are your programs live workshops instead of on-line training?
Research on adult learning shows that intense working with peers in workshops is a more effective learning method. Clinical research site professionals agree - in a recent survey, only 16 percent of respondents rated online learning as a very effective learning method vs. 60 percent rating workshops as very effective. In the workshops you learn real research skills, not just the words of the regulations. For the 15+ years CRST has run interactive workshops, coordinators and investigators have told us how much it meant to them to be able to come together with other people who do the same work as they do and share ideas, "pain points" and practical tips.

  2. Why do you limit the number of people who can attend your workshops?
The power of a workshop is being able to discuss and work together with peers. When there are too many people, there is not enough time to both cover the workshop material and let everyone interact fully.

  3. Why are your workshop manuals set-up for note taking against an outline, rather than having all the workshop content?
CRST workshops contain a lot of material. Some of this material you may already know. Some may not apply to your particular situation. Some you may need to "translate" so that you can understand it later. And a lot of the learning in a workshop may come from the experience of your fellow attendees. We want you to use the manual after the workshop. If you customize it for your needs by taking the notes you want to remember and highlighting the material most important to you, you will get more out of it later.

  4. Why are your workshops so intensive?
Clinical trials are serious business dealing with human lives. Learning how to conduct these trails in an effective and safe manner involves many things which take a lot of time to learn correctly. We only have two days, so we try to make the most of them.

Other

  1. Why doesn't CRST take credit cards?
We strive to keep the costs of our workshops reasonable, so that small offices and clinics can afford critical training. Accepting credit cards would increase our costs since the fees charged by banks for processing credit card transaction are very high, especially when a card is not physically processed. We do not want to increase our prices for everyone to cover the additional cost of accepting credit cards.

  2. How do you pick your locations?
We try to pick cities that have a significant number of local clinical research sites and are attractive destinations for those who need to travel to a workshop. We try to pick hotels close to restaurants and shopping locations. Over the years, our participants have told us they strongly prefer these locations to airport or office park sites. We strive to find hotels that are both attractive and reasonably priced as part of our effort to make our workshops affordable for as many sites as possible.

  3. Why do I need to login to post a question on the forum?
This is an extension of the peer to peer learning that takes place at CRST workshops. Participants prefer to respond to an individual rather than an anonymous posting. You may use a nickname, but a valid e-mail address is required in case we need to contact you.
